Hello, I'm Tom. I'm a painter & decorator based in Brighton. I work in Sussex and Surrey.

I have been a painter & decorator for over 15 years and have worked on various projects. Including Harrods, the new Brighton library, the Victorian fountain on the old steine, Christs hospital (the private school), and many show homes and private properties.

Recently I have decided to make the switch from conventional decorating to that of using natural and eco paints, after a few years of positive experimentation (For exteriors with existing paint I still use non-eco conventional paints).

Most properties are built using natural materials, I think it's a shame that we then cover all these services in plastic (conventional paints are essentially plastic). Eco paints are different they contain natural ingredients such as clay, lime and plant extracts, which not only look better but feel better - more harmonious.

Many natural and eco paints can outlast modern paint. For example exterior mineral (silicate) masonry paint has been known to last up to 100 years and will never peel, it can't peel. And linseed oil paint on exterior wood can last 15 years before needing a re-coat. The biggest advantage to natural paints is reduced preparation on future renovations, it's often just case of just apply another coat.

Conventional paint manufacturers focus on ease of use for painters and decorators while ignoring the needs of your house, your health and the environment.

Work Ethic

When working at private homes, I take a customer centric approach: I respect the customer's space and work around the customer's schedule. I see the job as first, the customer's home and second as my job.

Also, I only ever do one job at a time from start to finish.

Work scope

For most jobs I work by myself but for larger jobs I can work with other painters and decorators to speed things along.

I stick to what I know and don't do any handy-work, such as putting up shelving. I'm a decorator only :).

I do interior & exterior decorating and don't do site work. I will do small commercial jobs such as shop fronts and pubs but the 'whack it out' attitude of site work, isn't my thing.

I mainly work in Sussex & Surrey but will also work in London and further a field.
